Prep Boarding
Boarding in the Prep School has often been compared to one big sleepover with your friends; stepping into the Boarding House, you can certainly see why! Bedrooms are warm and comfortable and children are encouraged to personalise them with posters and photos from home.
Children are placed in bedrooms with others of a similar age and both the boys and the girls are often to be found dancing and singing-along to their favourite tunes with shouts of ‘Alexa, play…….’ being heard frequently!
Our Matrons and Boarding Staff ensure that children are happy and settled and all are encouraged to contact home frequently, many using Facetime, Skype or WhatsApp. We have a dedicated high-speed Wi-Fi service, eliminating the need for expensive telephone calls and children can all ‘phone home’ during the evening or, for those whose parents living in a different time-zone, at a more suitable time during the School Day.
Laundry is done daily and children are encouraged to learn to keep their clothes neat and tidy in their drawers. However, our day and evening Matrons are always ready to ‘lend a hand’ to those whose folding skills are not quite up to the mark yet!
The evening programme is generally busy with homework, supper and games and activities – some arranged, some self-generated. We have a Games Room with table tennis, air-hockey, table football and Wii. There is also an astro-turf and tennis, basketball courts, as well as plenty of swings, slides and trees. We have two goats – Salt and Pepper – and two ponies – Ando and Spirit. Wednesday night is Film and Tuck and Friday night is free-time. There is also a weekly outing programme with ‘shopping’ top of the list but children also go to Cambridge, Bury St Edmunds, bowling, cinema, roller-skating, soft-playing, swimming and local places of interest, with others further afield like Windsor.
Boarders are frequently invited to the homes of day children in the School and Matron will always liaise directly with parents to seek confirmation that they are happy with this and to give contact telephone numbers. When invited to parties, the School will arrange transport to and from the venue and will provide birthday cards and presents on your behalf.
For those unable to go home at Exeat weekends, we arrange some fun activities and outings and international students are also welcome to stay at the School during half-term holidays when a flight home and back may not be appropriate. You can rest assured that, if your son / daughter does need to remain in School during this time, they will be very well looked-after and we will ensure they do not miss out on any half-term treats and excursions.
