Drama
Drama at Barnardiston is a real team effort.
As well as the very popular weekly Speech and Drama lessons which are held in the School, we also stage two big shows each year for parents and relatives to enjoy.
Children in the Pre-Prep put on a Christmas Production in which they all take part. Using professional lights and sounds, pupils surprise their parents every year with their confidence and enthusiasm; even the most shy will be on stage, encouraged by their teachers to play a full part in the singing and dancing. Young talent is nurtured and stars begin to shine.
It is in the Prep School that the confidence built early on is extended. Productions are a very high standard and, for those taking part, there are lines to remember, songs to learn and choreography to master but it is true to say that every child who takes part has the chance to contribute valuably whether they are in the chorus or centre stage.
For those who do not want to act or sing, there are plenty of opportunities to take part in other ways. Children assist in stage management, operating both the professional light and sound desks, front of House and refreshments.
Some children have gone on to perform in London with the National Youth Music Theatre and, this year, our Ukranian Student, Anna Hentosh, was awarded a prestigious Drama Scholarship to St Mary’s Calne after studying for only one year!
