In a fast-moving digital world, employers and employees of the future, whatever their chosen careers, will need to be able to make safe and effective use of ever-changing technology. Barnardiston pupils use technology to support their learning in a wide range of subjects by using subject-specific software in lessons. In many subjects, they develop the confidence to use our suite of cloud-based programs from Microsoft 365 to collaborate, organise and present their work in a variety of ways. Weekly Computing lessons support these skills as required but the main focus is on learning how computers work and how to learn to code. Coding for our youngest pupils can involve programmable bots on the floor and physical tasks based on verbal algorithms. As children progress, they will move through block languages, such as Scratch and Micro:bit, towards more formal, text-based coding including HTML, SmallBasic and Python. Pupils should leave Barnardiston with the courage to learn to use and code whatever they may be faced with in their future schools and their eventual employment.
