A Typical Day
A Day in Life of Class 1
8.20am
Children arrive.
8.30am
Free play. Playing with our friends and settling in.
8.45am
We may have an assembly, hymn practice, ballet or sports. If not, we play Phonic Sounds and Number Recognition games.
9.15am
We practise our cursive writing by tracing over letters in our books and draw patterns in the sand.
9.45am
Snack-time and talking with our friends.
10.10am
Outside play-time
10.40am
If we do not have Spanish or Music, we will work on some topics and do some arts and crafts for our class displays.
11.30am
Story-Time or Circle/Discussion Time.
11.45am
Lunch, in the School Dining Room.

Outside play. Moon buggies and bikes, water and sand play or fun on the trim trail.
1-3pm
Role Play or Free Play. Play dough or art activities. Forest School. Soft play in the marquee.

Snack and drink. Story or yoga.

Home time or stay for a movie with Pre-Prep.
A Typical Day in Class 2
When children arrive in the morning, a range of activities are set out for them on the tables and floor for them to choose to interact with, before assembling on the carpet for their daily phonics session.
This is followed by the children having ‘continuous provision’, when they can choose their own activities while the teacher works with small groups to complete some literacy-based learning.
The children tidy up ready for their morning snack and then they go to the playground for their morning break. Here the children have the opportunity to ride on the trikes and moon-buggies.
After break-time, the children assemble on the carpet for their daily Maths input session; this is again followed by giving the children the chance to choose their own activities, while the teacher works with small groups to complete some Maths based learning. The children then prepare for lunch by tidying-up the classroom and going to wash their hands. After lunch, the children enjoy outside playtime.
The afternoons are based around other areas of learning including pupils’ Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creative Development and PSED. The children have many opportunities to paint, glue and construct, to use the computers, to dress-up, explore their outside environment by going on nature hunts and to free-play.
These activities are often based around half-termly topics and special events.
Throughout the week, the children visit specialist teachers for French, sport and music; these may be during the morning or the afternoon.
The children end their day with tidying-up ready for afternoon snack, before settling down in the Reading Corner for a lovely story.
A Typical Day - Class 3
8.10-8.20am
Arrival at School.
*If arriving at School between 7.30am and 8am, children may be booked into breakfast (additional charge will apply).
8.25am
Registration.
8.30-9am
Assembly / Singing / Animal Feeding (once a week) .
9-10am
Literacy or Numeracy.
10-10.40am
Snack and Break (outdoor play-bikes, scooters, sand and water, trim trail)
10.40-11.45am
Numeracy or Literacy.
11.45am-12.20pm
Lunch (children sit with Class Teachers. They all have a hot meal or they may have salad from the salad bar).
12.20-1pm
Break (outdoor play-bikes, scooters, sand and water, trim trail).
1-3pm
Lessons include history/geography, science, ICT, PHSE, RE; also Spanish, art, music, sport, all of which are taught by specialist teachers. Forest School taught by our own Forest School lead.
3-3.30pm
Reading, story and snack.
3.30-4.30pm
After-School Clubs.
4.30-5.30pm
After-School Care. Children are given a snack and will read and complete their spellings with a member of staff (additional charge will apply).
A Typical Day - Class 4
Here is a step by step example of a day in class 4:
A typical day for child in Class 4, top of the Pre-Prep department, begins with an independent morning task usually based around handwriting or phonics. During this task the class teacher and teaching assistant will listen to individual readers or conduct one-to-one learning support sessions.
At 8:50am, the first lesson commences. Our lessons range from class teacher lead English, mathematics, geography, history, science, PSHE, ICT and religious education to specialist lead sports, music, art and singing. Our lessons are engaging and due to small class sizes can be tailored closely to the interests and ability of the individual learner.
At 9:30am, the second lesson commenced and ends at 10:10am ready for break time. Due to our wonderful grounds and surroundings the children have access to fun play equipment, climbing frames, bikes and much more.
At 10:40am, break time ends and the children line up ready to be collected for lesson number three or for a session in our Forest School. Just before lunch time, the children and teacher take part in reading activities which may include group reading, comprehension tasks of individual reading.
At 11:45am lunch time begins. During lunch time the class teacher and teaching assistant sit with the children and help to promote healthy eating and wonderful table manners. After tidying up and Olathe Pre-Prep lunch prayer, the children are sent back outside for another play time.
At 1:00pm, lunch time play finishes and the class 4 children help to tidy away play equipment and bikes ready for the next day. In the afternoon, the children have three more exciting lessons before the school day ends at 3:30pm.
If children are not ready to be collected at 3:30pm they have the chance to take part in many different, exciting after School Clubs including: cookery, dance, pop stars, movie and homework. All these exciting clubs finish at 4:30pm.
Each day in Class 4 is exciting, challenging and fun.
